Appropriate Sub Attire - What to Wear

Here are the clothing guidelines (Do's and Don'ts) our subs should follow to ensure they are appropriately dressed for their assignments.

Expectations

  • As discussed in New Sub Orientation, guest teachers should dress professionally and maintain clean hygiene.
  • Subs should also refer to the Guest Teacher Handbook they received in their welcome email.

Do's

  • Acceptable Bottoms: pants, skirts, or dresses that cover below the knee. Pants should be business casual or khakis.
  • Acceptable Tops: button-down shirts, blouses, polo shirts, dressy/nice sweaters, business-like short or long-sleeve shirts.
  • Acceptable Footwear: closed-toe shoes are a must - loafers, dress-shoes, pumps, business-casual flats or slip-ons for ladies is also acceptable. Tennis shoes are only acceptable for extracurricular classes such as gym and should not be worn outside of the designated class space; tennis shoes should be brought on the side, and one of the appropriate footwear choices above should be worn to and throughout the school when not partaking in the extracurricular activity or class.
  • Do wear comfortable shoes
  • Do layer - Depending on your assignment it may be hot or cold. Bring a jacket

You can dress appropriately and comfortably!

Some schools are considered (for the most part) Business Casual. This does not necessarily mean you need to wear a suit, but you should still be dressed “professionally.”

*Keep in mind that each school is different.

  • Low cut or crop top shirts
  • Shirts that show cleavage or chest are unacceptable
  • See-through or tight-fit clothing
  • Short shorts or skirts
    • Bottoms that fall above the knee are considered inappropriate
  • Spaghetti straps or tank tops
  • Open-toed shoes are discouraged for your own safety
  • Sweatpants
