Parent Communication - Best Practices

As a sub, you may have to communicate with your students' parents/guardians about grades, absences, and behavior. Here are some best practices to ensure everything goes smoothly.

Why is Parent Communication essential?

  • Research shows that family involvement in education matters for student success. 
  • Teacher morale is increased when parent communication is increased.
  • It’s important for parents/guardians to create a partnership. Remember, you are a team.

When to Communicate:

  • Communicate often!
  • Keeping in touch with parents periodically is important, especially regarding:
    • Grades
    • Absences
    • Behavior
  • Keep in mind, teachers should not only reach out when there are problems, but also to communicate positive behavior.
